Wiring to Japan: Zengin Bank Code vs. SWIFT Code
The Japanese financial network separates domestic and international transfers. Please select the correct code based on your transfer method:
1. Domestic Transfers (Furikomi) 👉 Use 4-digit Bank Code + 3-digit Branch Code
If you are already in Japan and making a domestic interbank transfer via an ATM or online banking, you will need the 4-digit Bank Code (Zengin Code) and the 3-digit Branch Code. A SWIFT code is never used for domestic transfers in Japan.

2. International Wire Transfers 👉 Use SWIFT Code (8-11 characters)
When wiring money to Japan from overseas, your sending bank will require a SWIFT Code. Please note that some Japanese internet-only banks (e.g., PayPay Bank, au Jibun Bank) do not support direct incoming international wire transfers. Always confirm with the recipient before initiating the transfer.
